The lineshafts illustrated here show the major difference between the flat and raised bases. The lineshaft, like the stationary engines recieved a new base in 1954, and idea that Eric Malins had put forward in 1952, just before he left the company for while, before coming back in 1954/5. Notice in the lineshaft picture the variance in the decal. The flatbaser has the pre-war logo, although by this time the decal was the blue type using a sans serif font rather than the elaborate script of the initial design. Raised base lineshafts can also be found with the red oval decal with sans serif lettering. The pedestals on the flatbase version are cast iron. The later 1950s/60s versions trhought to the 1970s models utilised pop-rivets.
